Garuda Indonesia passenger traffic up 15% in May

Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia's total passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 14.9% in May, compared with the same month last year.

The airline's capacity for the month, as measured in ASKs, increased by 17.7% while passenger numbers climbed by 23.2% to 2.08 million.

The group's load factor fell by 1.8 percentage points to 73.2%.

The carrier's domestic traffic rose by 9.3% year on year while its capacity increased by 12.8% and its load factor decreased by 2.5 percentage points to 78.6%. Passenger numbers grew by 11.8% to 1.32 million.

Garuda Indonesia's international RPKs climbed by 6.7%, compared with the same month last year. Its capacity rose by 6.2%, while its load factor rose by 0.3 percentage points to 70.5%. The number of passengers carried increased by 4.4% to 317,000.

The airline carried 30,400t of cargo in May, a year-on-year increase of 34.4%. Its cargo load factor rose by 0.8 percentage points to 43.5%.

In May, its low-cost carrier Citilink's passenger traffic and capacity more than doubled. Passenger numbers also increased two-fold to 451,000 while its load factor decreased by 9.2 percentage points to 67.6%.
