Garuda Indonesia has signed a codeshare agreement with Taiwan's China Airlines (CAL).
The Indonesian national carrier says it will be codesharing on CAL's services from Taipei to Denpasar Bali and Jakarta and will also have a special pro-rate agreement to sell tickets on CAL flights to select destinations beyond Taipei, such as those in Japan and the USA.
"In future this codesharing deal will evolve to become other codeshare agreements on the following routes: Surabaya-Hong Kong-Taipei, Surabaya-Singapore-Taipei and Denpasar-Hong Kong-Taipei," it adds, without giving a timeframe.
"In terms of cargo, a special pro-rate agreement on cargo will be introduced" on Jakarta-USA and Jakarta-Europe routes, it says. Garuda currently has no cargo aircraft of its own so working with CAL's cargo division allows it to tap these overseas markets.
