Privately-owned Georgian Airways has opened scheduled services to Erbil in northern Iraq.

Georgia's aviation administration says the carrier will operate two weekly rotations to the city from Tbilisi.

Noting that 7,000 Iraqis visited Georgia last year, it says traffic on the route is expected to average 200 passengers a week.

Georgian Airways becomes the eleventh foreign carrier providing regular passenger services to Erbil.
