Low-cost carrier Germanwings will commence flights between Stuttgart and the Belgian capital Brussels on 20 May.

Initially the airline will operate 11 weekly flights, but frequencies will be increased to 16 from 11 June onwards.

Germanwings senior vice-president Heinz Joachim Schoettes expects the airline to carry 65,000 passengers on the route by the end of 2012, with that number exceeding 100,000 in 2013.
