UK subassembly manufacturer GKN Aerospace is negotiating with Bangalore-based engineering firm Quest Global to set up a joint venture production facility in India.
No final agreement has been reached to establish the plant, says Charles Paterson, vice-president business development and strategy for GKN's European division. But he adds that the UK company aims to reach a decision in the first quarter of 2013.
If the plans go ahead, the facility would "probably" produce metallic structures, he says.
GKN opened its third production plant in Mexico in July. The site in Mexicali will start manufacturing composite structural components for the Sikorsky BlackHawk helicopter before year end, but should expand its scope to other aircraft, including fixed-wing commercial types.
GKN already has a facility in Mexicali and another in San Luis Potosi. These produce fan module components for different engine manufacturers, including Honeywell, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce.
