Gol has signed a codehare agreement with Aeromexico covering flights from Gol's Sao Paulo base.
SkyTeam member AeroMexico plans to place its code on Gol's flights from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Brasilia and Salvador.
Gol in a statement explains the agreement allows for Aeromexico to supply passengers with more flight connections throughout Brazil, and at the same time supplies Gol with an additional sales channel to strengthen its passenger traffic and load factors.
The two carriers are also considering linking their frequent flyer programmes.
Gol offered Varig-operated flights from Sao Paulo to Mexio City with Boeing 767s briefly in 2008, but ultimately discontinued all its long-haul flying with that fleet type.
Aeromexico's deal with Gol and the reach it allows in Brazil gives Aeromexico important leverage against rival Mexicana on flights from Sao Paulo to Mexico City. Mexicana inaugurated flights on the route last year, and currently has no codesharing partners in Brazil.
Gol, meanwhile, has been steadily adding codeshare and interlining partners. Its current codeshare partners include Copa and Air France-KLM. The carrier also plans to codeshare with American Airlines.
