FAA has granted Goodrich supplemental type certification for new, lightweight fan cowl design on the International Aero Engines V2500 nacelle.
Goodrich collaborated with Bombardier Aerospace in Belfast, Northern Ireland on the design. Bombardier was responsible for the development of a resin transfer process to replace the fan cowl's honeycomb interior with a monolithic structure.

The resulting one-piece components from the process are more durable and longer lasting than the previous parts, the companies claim.
In addition a new oil servicing access door in the integrated drive generator (IDG) should cut on-wing maintenance time for operators through the elimination of the need to open the fan cowls for servicing of the IDG.
Production of the new cowls will occur at the Goodrich Aerostructures facility in Foley, Alabama as part of the company's Prime Solutions aftermarket support programme.
