Central American airline alliance Grupo TACA has added 61 destinations to its schedule through expanded co-operation with six regional affiliate carriers, including private Cuban airline INTER.

The five other affiliates are SANSA of Costa Rica, Guatemala's INTER, Islena Airlines of Honduras, La Costena of Nicaragua and Panama's Aeroperlas.

The new schedule links Grupo TACA's international and regional flights with additional domestic services in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba and the Caribbean.

Mark Kuhns, group vice president of regional airlines, says: "These operations provide Grupo TACA an excellent cost structure and scheduling flexibility to continue feeding our jet operation."

Based in El Salvador, Grupo TACA is an alliance of five airlines in Central America: Aviateca in Guatemala, Costa Rica's LACSA, NICA (Nicaragua), TACA International (El Salvador) and Taca in Honduras. It operates a mixed Boeing and Airbus fleet.

CEO of Grupo TAC, Ben Baldanza, says: "The regional carriers' scheduling co-ordination is an excellent example of how we continue to implement our merger integration plans at Grupo TACA."
