Gulf Air has expanded its codeshare relationship with Malaysia Airlines (MAS), giving it access to two more points in Malaysia and allowing it to make a return to Indonesia's Jakarta market.
The Middle East carrier says in a statement it has a daily non-stop service from its Bahrain base to Kuala Lumpur and that MAS has since 2006 been placing its code on this service but now the codeshare pact has been expanded.
It says the Gulf Air code has been put on MAS' domestic services from Kuala Lumpur to Penang and Langkawi and from Kuala Lumpur to Indonesia's capital Jakarta.
Langkawi is a popular resort island bordering Thailand and Penang is further south, on the West Malaysia peninsula, and is a commercial centre and tourist destination.
"This codeshare expansion [means] Gulf Air is back serving Indonesia again where it used to fly until July 2007", it adds.
