Middle Eastern carrier Gulf Air has selected Singapore’s SIA Engineering to perform heavy maintenance work on part of the airline’s Airbus fleet.

The three-year agreement covers maintenance on about half the Gulf Air fleet and includes five Airbus A340s, six A330s and six A320s.

Bahrain-based Gulf Air signed the deal, which runs to 2010, at the Singapore Airshow. It values the agreement at $21 million.

Chief executive Bjorn Naf says the contract reflects SIA Engineering’s “long history of excellence and dedication”.

SIA Engineering has a customer base of over 80 airlines and manufacturers and provides line maintenance at Singapore Changi Airport for more than 60 carriers.
