Gulf Air will resume flights to Iran in December by launching four flights a week serving the city of Mashhad, more than a year after it first planned to re-start routes to the country.

The Bahrain-based carrier had stated it would resume flights to Mashhad, Tehran, Shiraz and Isfahan gradually from 28 October, 2012 after receiving approval from the Bahraini authorities to re-enter the country.

But this was delayed after the Iranian civil aviation authority failed to approve the airline's new flight schedule.

Gulf Air suspended flights to Mashhad in March 2011 amid safety concerns.
