Hainan Airlines has filed an application with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to start two new services in 2014.
The carrier plans to start a twice weekly Beijing-Newark service as early as June. This will be followed by thrice weekly Beijing-Mumbai-Nairobi services from August 2014.
CAAC says Hainan will use Boeing 787s to Newark, and 767s on the Beijing-Mumbai-Nairobi route.
Innovata schedules show that Hainan Airlines will be the only operator on the Beijing-Mumbai route. It will compete with Kenya Airways on the Mumbai-Nairobi route, and with United Airlines on the Beijing-Newark route.
