China's Hainan Airlines took delivery of the first of its 10 Boeing 787-8s on 4 July.
Hainan's 787s are configured with 36 business class seats and 177 economy seats. It will operate the new aircraft initially on services between Beijing and Haikou, and will deploy it on services from Beijing to Seattle, Toronto and Chicago.
"The 787 will allow Hainan Airlines to open new routes from Beijing to North America and provide our unique 'Eastern-style' five-star in-flight experience for global passengers," says Hainan's vice-chairman Mu Weigang.
Flightglobal's Ascend Online database shows that the airline ordered its 787s in 2005 and will take delivery of seven of the type this year. Its three remaining aircraft are scheduled to be delivered in 2015 and 2016.
