Haiti's Sunrise Airways has announced new service between Port-au-Prince and Kingston, Jamaica.

The carrier will announce in the "coming weeks" more details on the start date and frequency for the new route, it says. It will operate 19-seat BAe Jetstream 32 aircraft on the route.

Sunrise received the approval for the flights from Haiti's foreign affairs ministry. “While we still have a few technical and regulatory hurdles to clear, this designation puts us in a strong position to launch service to Kingston within the next three months,” says Philippe Bayard, president of Sunrise Airways. “For business travellers with interests in both cities, as well as leisure travellers keen on discovering the unique cultural, fine arts, dining, and nightlife attractions in two of the Caribbean’s great capitals, this new service will prove ideal.”

Sunrise began scheduled operations in December 2012.

It will be the only carrier operating between Port-au-Prince and Kingston, schedules in Innovata show.
