HNA Group has inked an agreement to set up a new carrier with the municipal government of Guilin.
The plan is for Guilin Airlines to be launched by May, and to expand the carrier to a fleet of 30 aircraft within three years. No details on routes and fleet types were disclosed.
As part of the agreement, the two partners will also set up a travel group, aimed at building up Guilin’s reputation as an international tourist destination. Guilin is a city in southern China.
FlightMaps Analytics show that China Southern Airlines, Air China and Shandong Airlines dominate the capacity out of Guilin, accounting for 49.7% of all available seat kilometres. The most popular routes out of Guilin are to Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou.
Hainan Airlines had also earlier this month received approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China to launch a joint venture carrier in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province in southeast China.
