Honeywell Aerospace has received European Union Aviation Safety Agency supplemental type certificate approval for its Aspire 200 satellite communications system and GoDirect Router to be installed on the Embraer Phenom 300.

The STC enables Altenrhein Aviation to install the services on the light business jet.

"Introducing Honeywell's Aspire 200 satellite communication system and GoDirect solutions for the Phenom 300 platform will ensure we deliver reliable connectivity to both the cabin and cockpit," says Altenrhein Aviation managing director Natascha Rode.

Honeywell also announced at the show that GoDirect and its Jetwave satellite hardware have been installed on a Bombardier Global Express jet by Germany's ACC Columbia, as part of what it describes as "the largest single aircraft update within the business jet space".

The cockpit was simultaneously modernised with Honeywell's Primus Elite avionics system, putting the aircraft in compliance with air navigation mandates ahead of the 2020 deadline. The refurbishment was carried out in November and the aircraft is now in service.

"The cost of buying a new business aircraft continues to increase, so operators are looking toward modifying their jets with upgraded solutions as an investment," says ACC Columbia managing director Nils Janssen.

Honeywell's GoDirect Router has also been retrofitted to an Embraer Legacy 650 by Alamo Engineering. The installation is the first time in the business aviation market that Honeywell's Ovation Select cabin management system has been combined with the Inmarsat SwiftBroadband satellite connectivity service.

"Working with Honeywell, we can now provide Embraer Legacy 650 operators and owners with a solution to deliver and enjoy unparalleled cabin connectivity in the air from a single router, enhancing the passenger experience while still managing usage and bandwidth as needed," says Alamo Engineering managing director Ivan Grigoriev.
