Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) total passenger numbers rose by 5.5% to 4.57 million in November, compared with the same period a year ago.

The airport says the rise in passenger numbers was largely because of an increase in resident travel of 12% year on year.

Total aircraft movements at the airport increased by 6.6% to 29,700, while cargo volumes grew by 9.3% to 374,000t for the month.

Passenger aircraft movements grew by 6.7%, followed by cargo movements, which rose by 4.1%.

"We are pleased to see very healthy growth in all traffic figures, especially the sustained rebound of cargo volume for four consecutive months despite a consistently challenging global economic environment. We remain cautiously optimistic about the potential for cargo throughput, and we foresee this positive trend continuing at HKIA," says Stanley Hui, chief executive, Airport Authority Hong Kong.
