Hong Kong International airport’s (HKIA) total passenger numbers rose by 9.3% year on year to 4.8 million in September.

The growth in passenger traffic in September was mainly driven by visitor traffic, which registered an increase of 12% over the same month last year. Passenger traffic to and from mainland China and Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions.

Total aircraft movements increased by 5.5% to 30,400. However, cargo volume declined 0.8% to 344,000t.

During the first nine months of the year, HKIA handled 44.8 million passengers, a 6% increase over the same period in 2012. Cargo volume increased 1.7% to 3 million tonnes, while aircraft movements rose by 5.6% to just over 275,600.
