Hong Kong International airport's (HKIA) total passenger numbers increased by 7.7% year on year to 5.4 million in July.
The growth in passenger traffic in July was mainly driven by Hong Kong resident traffic, which registered an increase of 14% over the same month last year. Passenger traffic to and from Mainland China and Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions.
Total aircraft movements at the airport rose by 7.5% to 32,100, while cargo volume went up by 1.9% to 341,000t.
The growth in cargo throughput during the month was mainly driven by a 5% year-on-year growth in exports. During the month, cargo throughput to and from North America outperformed other key regions.
During the first seven months of the year, passenger numbers stood at 34.3 million, a 5.2% increase over the same period in 2012. Cargo volume increased 2% to 2.3 million tonnes, while aircraft movements rose by 5.5% to almost 213,000.
