Hong Kong Express Airways plans to launch four new services, starting from the end of October.
The carrier says it will start daily Hong Kong-Chiang Mai and Hong Kong-Tokyo Haneda, and twice daily Hong Kong-Phuket and Hong Kong-Taichung services.
Innovata schedules show that Hong Kong Express will compete with Dragonair on routes from Hong Kong to Chiang Mai and Phuket. It will also compete with Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways on the Hong Kong-Tokyo Haneda route.
Hong Kong Express is working towards relaunching itself as a low-cost carrier by October this year, after completing a two-year strategic review with its sister carrier Hong Kong Airlines. The airline will target the price sensitive market and focus on destinations within a 5h flying radius.
It aims to have a soft launch during the winter schedule with five Airbus A320 aircraft. This is expected to grow to 11 A320s by the end of 2014 and 30 aircraft by 2018.
