Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) served 27.6 million passengers in the first half to June, up by 6.9% from 2011.
Total aircraft movements at the airport increased by 5.8% to 172,000, while its cargo volumes remained stable at 1.9 million tonnes during the first six months of this year.
The steady performance was further driven by overall traffic growth in June, says HKIA.
In June, HKIA's passenger traffic grew by 5.5% to 4.66 million, while its cargo throughput rose by 4.1% to 334,000t. The airport's air traffic movements rose by 4.9% to 28,000.
The growth in passenger traffic in June was driven mainly by visitor traffic and Hong Kong resident travel, which registered gains of 6% and 9% respectively over the same month last year.
Passenger traffic to and from Japan and Southeast Asia performed particularly well.
The growth in cargo throughput last month was primarily due to an 8% year-on-year growth in imports.
During June, cargo throughput to and from Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions.
