Alertness and Performance Management, which designed the survey, analysed 1,359 responses from regional airline pilots. The online questionnaire was publicised through aviation safety organisations and professional pilot associations. It was open for responses in the last two weeks of August and the first two weeks of September 2009, tapping pilot experiences during the previous six months. Information was collected on demographics, flight experience, duty/rest experience, sleep patterns, fatigue risk management and company policy. The responses were collected and verified by an independent survey company.
