Mongolian carrier Hunnu Air is considering the launch of regular services to Paris with a technical stop in Russia.
A source at Ekaterinburg Koltsovo airport says the airline has tentatively enquired about slots for refuelling en route from Ulaanbaatar to the French capital.
Apart from three Fokker 50s, the airline operates two Airbus A319-100s. It is looking to provide twice-weekly services between the cities, starting in June.
If demand on the route picks up, Hunnu Air might consider leasing a larger-capacity, longer-range aircraft for nonstop flights, suggests the source.
The carrier, formerly known as Mongolian Airlines, last year declared its intention to join the SkyTeam alliance. China Eastern Airlines is acting as its sponsor, helping in providing crew training, catering, ground support and maintenance at Shanghai Pudong airport.
