Group load factor across IAG carriers rose more than one percentage point to 85.3%, as combined traffic across British Airways, Iberia and Vueling remained relatively unchanged despite a 1.4% cut in overall capacity.
British Airways lifted passenger traffic 2.2% on a virtually unchanged capacity. By contrast passenger traffic at Iberia, which has sharply cut capacity as part of restructuring efforts, was down 16.6% in August. This was set against a 13.6% cut in capacity. The carrier has been placing more focus on improving yields rather than market share as part of its restructuring.
The newest addition to the group, fast-growing Spanish low-cost sector carrier Vueling, enjoyed more another strong month. Passenger traffic at Vueling grew 27.5%, outstripping the 21.6% increase in capacity over August last year.
