Air freight volumes kinked up 1.4% in April, IATA figures show.
The airline association says the year-on-year increase in freight tonne-kilometres "helped to offset the 2.6% decline recorded in March", but warns that "it continues an 18-month trend of basically no growth in the cargo markets". A brief rally at the end of 2012 "has clearly stalled", says IATA.
The Latin America and Middle East regions bucked the general trend, with strong growth. Latin American airlines grew freight business 12.2%, and their Middle Eastern counterparts 8.6%.
For European and African carriers, volumes were up 0.9% and 1.4%, respectively.
Volumes were down 0.4% in Asia-Pacific, and 0.1% in North America.
