Japan Airlines (JAL) and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will commence a codesharing partnership on 1 July.

JAL will place its code on MAS operated flights within Malaysia, and on flights to Japan, India and the Maldives. MAS will place its code on flights operated by JAL within Japan and on flights to Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and the United States. The codeshares will be subjected to government approvals.

"Japan Airlines is pleased to begin this codeshare arrangement with Malaysia Airlines as members of the alliance gear up to welcome it into the Oneworld family" says Masaru Onishi, JAL's chairman.

"This codeshare between Malaysia Airlines and JAL is also an important first step towards strengthening our relations with partner airlines in the Oneworld alliance and we hope to enter more codeshare relationships with other Oneworld partners progressively in the coming months, which will also contribute towards greater connectivity for the alliance." says Malaysia Airlines group chief executive, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
