IATA has appointed Conrad Clifford as regional vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region.

Clifford joins the airline association on 1 February, and will be based in Singapore. He succeeds Maunu von Lueders, who retires on 14 March.

Chief executive of Virgin Nigeria between 2005 and 2009, Clifford subsequently headed up Monarch Travel Group and served as acting managing director of Antrak Air Ghana. He has also worked for Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Menzies Aviation Group and Virgin Atlantic in the course of his 30-year airline industry career.

“I look forward to leading IATA in Asia-Pacific,” says Clifford. “The region offers tremendous opportunities. Many of the region’s governments are using aviation as a critical element of their economic strategies. Some, however, are struggling to provide the foundation for the industry’s success. In both cases IATA has an important role to play.”
