Icelandair has selected WheelTug's electric drive system for its Boeing 737 Max orders.
The carrier is WheelTug's first customer for the 737 Max, according to the supplier. The system allows aircraft to both pushback and taxi without use of either the engines or a tug while on the ground.
Icelandair has firm orders for nine 737-8 Max and seven 737-9 Max aircraft, as well as eight purchase rights for additional aircraft.
WheelTug says its system reduces fuel consumption on the ground by 80% on Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family aircraft.
