As the global aviation industry slowly finds its feet again, airlines and employers in the Gulf are not finding it easy to persuade pilots and professionals to relocate to the region from countries where jobs are scarce. However, expatriates moving to the Arabian Peninsula can still live the dream - with a rewarding, well-paid job and a chance to live in some of the most dynamic cities on the planet. While a decade ago, only Dubai could claim that description in the region, today, the likes of Abu Dhabi and Qatar are fast emerging from the shadow of their glitzy neighbour to become highly liveable cities. And the aviation sector is still growing apace with the region's airlines, accounting for backlogs of hundreds of aircraft, world-class airports and an emerging manufacturing, design and service sector. This latest version of our annual guide to Middle East careers looks at the kind of jobs available and what it is like to live as an expat in the region.
