India domestic passenger numbers up 27% in April

India's domestic airlines carried 4.2 million passengers in April, up 27% from 3.3 million passengers a year ago.

Jet Airways and its subsidiary JetLite had the biggest share of the market with 1.1 million passengers and a 26% market share, says India's civil aviation ministry.

Kingfisher Airlines was second with 898,000 passengers and a 21% market share.

They were followed by Air India with 762,000 passengers (18%), IndiGo with 658,000 passengers (16%), SpiceJet with 527,000 passengers (13%), GoAir with 246,000 passengers (6%) and Paramount Airways with 13,000 passengers (0.3%).

In terms of passenger load factors, Air India posted 72.9%, Jet Airways 74.2%, JetLite 78.1%, Kingfisher 75.8%, SpiceJet 81%, Paramount 85%, GoAir 78% and IndiGo 82.4%.
