Indian carriers’ domestic traffic down 7.7% in September

Indian carriers have posted a 7.7% year-on-year decline in domestic passenger traffic for September, as measured in RPKs, and a 1.3% decline in capacity, as measured in ASKs.

IndiGo had the largest market share at 27.2%, while Jet Airways, including its subsidiary JetLite, captured a market share of 23.8%.

SpiceJet, Air India, Go Air and Kingfisher followed, with market shares of 18.5%, 19.3%, 7.6% and 3.5% respectively.

Passenger load factors at IndiGo, Jet Airways and JetLite declined to 69%, 63.5% and 66.1% respectively, compared with load factors in August.

Kingfisher's load factor grew to 58.4% from the previous month, while Go Air's passenger load factor remained stable at 67.7%.

SpiceJet and Air India experienced a decline in load factors to 64.4% and 65.2% respectively.

Passengers load factors for the month of September declined mainly because of the lull season.
