Indian carriers’ passenger numbers up 1.1% in March

The total number of passengers carried by Indian airlines increased by 1.1% month on month to 4.9 million in March.

The largest market share went to Jet Airways, including JetLite at 29.2%, followed by IndiGo at 21.9% and Air India at 17.9%. The market share of SpiceJet, Kingfisher and Go Air was at 17.1%, 6.4% and 7.5%, respectively.

Seat factor of IndiGo, Go Air and SpiceJet fell to 76.5%, 80.2% and 73% respectively compared with February. Air India, Jet Airways, JetLite and Kingfisher also experienced a decrease in seat factor to 68.9%, 75.8%, 74.1% and 69.5% respectively.

Passengers carried by domestic airlines during the first quarter of 2012 rose by 6.5% to 15.3 million compared with 14.3 million for the same period last year.
