Indian carriers’ passenger numbers up 8.1% in January

The total number of passengers carried by Indian airlines increased by 8.1% year to 5.33 million in January compared with the same period last year.

In January, the largest market share went to Jet Airways, including JetLite, at 28.8%, followed by IndiGo at 20.8% and Air India at 17.1%. Market share for SpiceJet, Kingfisher and GoAir were at 16.3%, 11.3% and 5.8%, respectively.

Most airlines recorded a decline in seat factor in January from December, with IndiGo's seat factor falling to 85.9%, followed by JetLite at 80.1%, Jet Airways at 76.8%, SpiceJet at 75.6%, Air India at 71.2% and Kingfisher at 70.2%. However, the seat factor of GoAir rose marginally to 77.4%.
