Low-cost carrier Indonesia AirAsia will end its Makassar-Balikpapan service on 1 May, which was launched on 17 December 2012.

The airline's spokeswoman declined to specify reasons for the service's termination.

It will, however, add a daily service on routes from Surabaya to Jakarta and Makassar, starting 13 June.

Frequencies on the Surabaya-Jakarta route will increase from three to four times daily, while the Surabaya-Makassar service will be doubled to twice daily, adds the spokeswoman.

Innovata schedules show that Indonesia AirAsia competes with carriers such as Lion Air, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink on routes from Surabaya to Jakarta and Makassar.
