Mexican low-cost carrier Interjet has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for expedited approval to launch service between Monterrey and San Antonio from 11 November.
Interjet says it has already received approval from Mexican authorities to launch flights on the route, and wants to begin flights "as soon as possible in order to position itself to meet the heavy demand for air travel occasioned by the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday in the United States".
Interjet already operates to San Antonio from Mexico City, and has extensive operations from Monterrey.
The carrier says in a letter to the DOT today that it has received no opposition to the flights in a poll it carried out among US carriers and other parties.
Interjet, if it launches the flights, will compete against Aeromexico and Mexican low-cost carrier VivaAerobus on the route, schedules in Innovata show.
