US lessor Intrepid Aviation has purchased a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on lease to Thai Airways International from BOC Aviation.
The 2012-vintage aircraft (MSN 41520), which was delivered in late 2012, is under a 12-year operating lease with the Thai carrier, according to Flightglobal's Ascend online database.
The transaction marks the first time Intrepid Aviation has purchased an aircraft with a lease attached. The deal also marks Intrepid's first Boeing purchase and the first aircraft acquisition outside the lessor's A330 backlog.
"This acquisition will be followed by several others in the near future," says Intrepid's president and chief executive officer Franklin Pray.
BOC Aviation placed an order for eight 777-300ERs in November 2010 and agreed lease placements with Thai. To date BOC Aviation has delivered five aircraft of the type. Two more deliveries are due in July and August while the final aircraft is scheduled for October this year.
