Concerns about the safety and security of road transport have prompted independent UK freight operator Coyne Airways to reinforce its services to Iraq with a new Kuwait-Baghdad route.

Earlier this year the carrier began a twice-weekly operation on the Dubai-Baghdad route using Ilyushin Il-76 and Antonov An-12 aircraft.

It has now added a similar twice-weekly direct service from Kuwait to the Iraqi capital, claiming that it can offer rates which can compete with those for surface transport.

Coyne Airways chief Larry Coyne says: “The danger and unreliability of road convoys into Iraq has significantly increased demand for air cargo services from Kuwait.”
