Ireland's aviation regulator has sharply criticised a UK television documentary titled 'Ryanair: Secrets from the Cockpit'.

The Dispatches programme, aired by Channel 4 on 12 August, was "a misguided attack on the regulation of a low-cost carrier", says the Irish Aviation Authority.

Information used in the programme "may undermine the travelling public's confidence in civil air transport in Europe, which, because of the intensive regulatory regime, remains the safest mode of mass transport", adds the agency.

Ryanair confirmed on the day of the broadcast that it has instructed its lawyers to issue legal proceedings against Channel 4, which responds: "We stand by our journalism and will robustly defend proceedings if they are initiated."
