Russian airframer Irkut has contracted US industrial group Eaton for the entire hydraulic system to equip the proposed MS-21 twinjet.
Under a freshly signed agreement, Eaton will develop, test, certify and produce engine-driven pumps and fluid conveyance sub-systems for the MS-21, in addition to providing after-sales support.
The company intends to use its global supply chain as well as teaming up with locally-based manufacturers.
In 2009, Irkut's parent United Aircraft selected Eaton as a hydraulic controls supplier for the type, with 50% component production sourced from Russia.
"Afterwards, our engineers took part in joint research and initial design work," says Eaton. "During Moscow MAKS air show in 2011, we also reached an agreement with [Russian holding] Aviation Equipment, which would provide facilities for product localisation."
