Russian airframer Irkut is considering forming a partnership with Lufthansa Consulting to market its MS-21 twinjet internationally.
A spokesman for Irkut suggested the proposed tie-up could help promote MS-21 sales, develop technical support and a customer base for its new aircraft type overseas.
Speaking at the Singapore air show, Irkut director general Alexei Fyodorov underscored the need to work out an arrangement to this end.
He said: "We're not prepared yet to enter the international MRO market on our own and are seeking a partner in that field. Lufthansa Consulting could be one of them."
Irkut holds firm orders and combined commitments for 235 MS-21 aircraft from half a dozen prospective customers, said Fyodorov.
"At this point, we're not keen to build up this portfolio," he added. "We'd rather focus on firming up existing orders and resume the marketing campaign when the MS-21 prototype becomes airborne."
