UK wet-lease specialist Astraeus Airlines has appointed Bruce Dickinson to the newly-created position of marketing director.

Dickinson, who is better-known as the lead singer with heavy metal band Iron Maiden, is a Boeing 757 and 737 pilot for the carrier.

He admits that the post is, to an extent, an "ambassador role". But Dickinson states that the business growth at Astraeus means it is dealing with three times as many aircraft placements as a year ago, when the industry was in an economic slump, and that he is taking on some of the workload of leasing director Shaun Monnery.

Astraeus operates a fleet of 11 aircraft which, alongside 757s and 737s, also includes an Airbus A320.
