An Israeli air force Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk has shown its capability to launch the Rafael Spike ER missiles.

The missiles launch is a very advanced phase of a Sikorsky-funded programme to develop an armed version of this helicopter. The prototype, built by the IAF in co-operation with the US helicopter manufacturer and Elbit Systems' Cyclone division, includes a new mission computer, enhanced avionics and advanced target acquisition system.

The air force has not decided yet whether to arm its UH-60s with missiles, but arming the BlackHawk with the Rafael would allow the transport helicopter to locate, identify and destroy targets at ranges of up to 8km (4nm).
