Boeing plans to have its 777X and 787-10 widebody aircraft "in service later this decade".

Speaking at the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading conference in Rome today, Randy Tinseth, vice president marketing, Boeing said the exact timing of the programmes "depends on a number of factors".

"With the 777X, it is about knowing the technology is available, so we know we are building an aircraft that is better than our competitors'," he says. "As for the 787-10, it is a matter of knowing that our production system can handle another variant."

Decision about the programmes "won't be made in a vacuum", he says.

"We need to make sure we take a comprehensive approach to the entire market and not make any decisions in isolation, but we are focusing on both (777X, 787-10) for later in the decade."
