Japan Airlines will deploy the first of its retrofitted Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the Tokyo Narita-London Heathrow route from 9 January 2013.
This is the first of 13 777-300ERs that the carrier is retrofitting with new seats. Works on the second aircraft are due to be completed by next February.
As the carrier's 777-300ERs undergo refurbishment, the aircraft will progressively be deployed on routes between Tokyo and New York and other European services, says JAL.
These aircraft, to be retrofitted with eight first class seats, 49 business class seats and 40 premium economy seats and 135 economy seats, will have features including larger personal TV screens and wider seat pitches.
