Quake-damaged Sendai airport will resume international flights in late June, said Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

The airport will begin handling international charter flights and aims to resume scheduled international flights from 25 July.

The number of domestic arrivals will be doubled from 25 July and the terminal building will be fully operational at the end of September, it added.

Sendai airport partially reopened to domestic flights from 13 April, a month after it was damaged by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
