United Airlines sells 747-400 to Scaled Composites

United Airlines closed the sale of a 1997-vintage Boeing 747-400 (28715) aircraft, equipped with PW4056 engines, to Scaled Composites.

The 747-400 will be used to build the world's largest aircraft to serve as a mobile platform for low-cost satellite launches.

The transaction was arranged by remarketing agent, Bristol Associates.

The project was conceived by aerospace designer Burt Rutan and it is funded by a closely held venture of Microsoft founder, Paul Allen.

According to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database, United operates 27 747-400s. The eldest vintage is 1989 while the youngest aircraft were built in 2000.

Air Berlin Turkey leased a Boeing 737-800 (30878) aircraft with CFM56-7B26 engines from Air Berlin. The 2001-vintage aircraft has been operated by Air Berlin since new.

Air Taraba acquired an Embraer ERJ-145 (145617) aircraft with AE3007-A1 engines from Aircraft Solutions ERJ-145. The 2002-vintage aircraft was last operated by Flybe.

Asian Express Airlines acquired a BAE Systems RJ85 (E2363) aircraft with LF507-1F engines from CityJet. The 1999-vintage aircraft was previously operated by CityJet.

AWAS acquired two Airbus A319-100s (2929, 2963) aircraft with V2500-A5 engines from GECAS. The 2006-vintage aircraft have been operated by US low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines since they were manufactured. Their current leases expire in 2018.

Batavia Air leased an A321-200 (1017) aircraft with CFM56-5B3/P engines from MC Aviation Partners. The 1999-vintage aircraft was previously operated by Air Ivoire.

Belair subleased an Airbus A319-100 (3245) aircraft with CFM56-5B6/P engines from Air Berlin. The 2007-vintage aircraft is owned by SEB.

Brussels Airlines leased an Airbus A330-200 (249) aircraft with PW 4168A engines from Swiss. The 1998-vintage aircraft has been operated by Swiss since new.

Brussels Airlines leased an Airbus A320-200 (1797) aircraft with CFM56-5B4/P engines from GECAS. The 2002-vintage aircraft was previously operated by Air Berlin.

GoJet Airlines leased four CRJ700 (10064, 10069, 10102, 10153) aircraft with CF34-8C1 engines from Delta Air Lines. The 2002/03/04-vintage aircraft were previously operated by Comair and ExpressJet Airlines.

Jeju Air leased a Boeing 737-800 (28214) aircraft with CFM56-7B26 engines from ILFC. The 1998-vintage aircraft was previously operated by DirectAir.

Jet2 subleased a Boeing 737-800 (28229) aircraft with CFM56-7B27 engines from Thomson Airways. The 2000-vintage aircraft is owned by Aviation Capital Group.

Kahala Aviation acquired of one Boeing 737-400 (24903) aircraft with CFM56-3C1 engines. The 1990-vintage aircraft is currently on lease to Aerosvit Airlines.

Kahala Aviation acquired of one Boeing 737-300SF (24679) aircraft with CFM56-3B2 engines. The 1990-vintage aircraft is on lease to Swiftair.

Kenya Airways Cargo leased (ACMI) a Boeing 747-400F (24066) aircraft with PW4056 engines from Martinair. The 1990-vintage aircraft is on lease from Aircastle through 2018.

Medallion Air leased a Boeing MD-83 (49808) aircraft with JT8D-219 engines from Triton Aviation Finance. The 1991-vintage aircraft was previously operated by Meridianafly.

Thai AirAsia subleased an Airbus A320-200 (4917) aircraft with CFM56-5B4/3 engines from Air Asia. The 2011-vintage aircraft is owned by ICBC Financial Leasing.

Volotea Airlines leased two Boeing 717-200 (55167, 55169) aircraft with BR700-715A engines from Boeing Capital Corp. Equipment Leasing. The 2003-vintage aircraft were operated by MexicanaClick.

XL Airways Germany leased a Boeing 737-800 (32920) aircraft with CFM56-7B26 engines from Air Lease. The 2003-vintage aircraft was previously operated by Air Berlin.

Yakutia Airlines leased a Boeing 737-800 (32624) aircraft with CFM56-7B26 engines from Air Berlin. The 2001-vintage aircraft was operated by Air Berlin since new.
