Jetstar Asia has appointed Barathan Pasupathi as its new chief executive, with effect from 2 July.

He replaces Chong Phit Lian, who stepped down in February this year.

Prior to his appointment, Pasupathi, a Singaporean national, was managing director of Mabanaft Singapore, and CFO at Kuwait's Jazeera Airways and Sahaab Aircraft Leasing. He was also Jetstar Asia's first CFO, serving in this role from 2004 to 2007.

"Jetstar Asia is a great success story, particularly given the fact it is now the largest and most profitable low-fare carrier in Singapore. I look forward to leading the local team in building on the airline's success and strengthening the Jetstar brand across Asia-Pacific," says Pasupathi.

Paul Daff will remain acting chief executive until 1 July.
