Jetstar Airways has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DoT) to amend the statement of authorization granted for the airline's amended codeshare agreement with American Airlines.

The amendment would allow the airline to display the AA* designator code on Jetstar operated flights between Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, and Christchurch, New Zealand in order to provide connecting service to American's codeshare service on Qantas between Melbourne and Sydney to Los Angeles. Jetstar currently displays the AA* code on intra-New Zealand flights it operates under a codeshare agreement with American Airlines.
