Jetstar Airways will start a four times weekly Melbourne-Tokyo Narita service on 29 April 2014.
The carrier will use Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.
However, it will suspend the thrice weekly Gold Coast-Osaka service from 8 May 2014.
“We know this is one of the largest unserved international markets in Australia and our bookings show that many Victorian customers are travelling to Tokyo via other ports in the network,” says Jetstar's chief executive for Australia and New Zealand David Hall.
Innovata schedules show that Jetstar Airways will be the only operator on the Melbourne-Tokyo Narita route.
