Jetstar Airways has announced that it will deploy Boeing 787-8s on the Melbourne-Phuket route from 9 February.
Initially one of the three weekly services will be operated by a 787, and by 30 March the type will operate all services on the route. Flightglobal’s FlightMaps Analytics shows that those services are currently operated by Airbus A330-200s.
Flightglobal’s Ascend Online Fleets database shows that the carrier has three 787-8s in service and 11 on order, with deliveries scheduled out to 2015.
Jetstar initially deployed the aircraft on selected domestic services and to Denpasar. On 3 February it also started using 787s on the Sydney-Phuket route.
The 787s are replacing the A330s in Jetstar's fleet, with those aircraft to be returned to parent carrier Qantas to replace the 767-300s it is retiring.
